Why do I frequent Tumblr?

No, really. WHY do I frequent Tumblr?

I keep finding the sickest things on here. They pop up all the time. I ignore the least offensive, but there’s so much that just punches the gut. People who actually promote eating-disorders has got to be one of the most extreme examples of “WTF?!” I’ve found on here, but other more subtle ones pop up. These are the ones that tend to sicken me the most.

Just tonight, for example, my favorite cat blog, which I no longer follow by the way, posted a gif of a child brushing a cat. The gif was from a scene of Toddlers and Tiaras (a show I have severe problems with, but that’s a tale for another time), and the hairbrush was not one that should be used on a cat, particularly its head. However, the person posting captioned it with things that just make me sick. She called a toddler a “bimbo” and a “ho”, stating “fuck these hos”.

First of all, bimbo is defined as meaning “an attractive but stupid young woman, especially one with loose morals.” A toddler can not have loose morals given that they are still in the process of learning morals from their parents and society at large.  Next, ho is a slang term for whore, which is a woman who engages in promiscuous sexual intercourse, usually for money”. Now, if a child that young is engaging in sexual intercourse, they are being raped. And saying, “fuck these hos”, is practically calling for them to be raped.

Now I know that the…uh…sweetheart who wrote this did not intend for the rape of a child, but that still doesn’t excuse the fact that she is blatantly degrading a child with names and phrases that shouldn’t even be wielded against an adult. And then she has the nerve to get upset that her followers protested! I’m sorry, but my protesting you degrading a child on your blog does not take away your free speech nor does it invalidate my argument. It is my right of free speech and my duty as a moral, ethical person to tell you that you are wrong for what you have done. Wrong is wrong, and this was wrong.

Really, why do I keep frequenting Tumblr? I could find my fandom stuff elsewhere I’m sure…
